Machine vision is one of the key technologies in the production process. In machines or production lines, machine vision can detect product quality to eliminate non-conforming products or guide robots to complete assembly work, which is closely related to the entire production.

What is machine vision?

Simply put, machine vision is the use of machines instead of the human eye for measurement and judgment.

Machine vision systems use machine vision products to convert captured objects into image signals, which are transmitted to specialized image processing systems to obtain morphological information of the captured objects. Based on pixel distribution, brightness, color, and other information, these signals are converted into digital signals.

The image system performs various operations on these signals, extracts the features of the target, and then controls the actions of on-site devices based on the discrimination results.

Machine vision is a comprehensive technology that includes image processing, mechanical engineering technology, control, electrical lighting, optical imaging, sensors, analog and digital video technology, computer software and hardware technology (image enhancement and analysis algorithms, image cards, I/O cards, etc.)

A typical machine vision application system includes image acquisition, light source system, image digitization module, digital image processing module, intelligent judgment and decision-making module, and mechanical control execution module.

Due to the ability of machine vision to quickly obtain a large amount of information and its ease of automatic processing, people are gradually applying machine vision systems to fields such as astronomy, medicine, traffic navigation, military, and more.

In foreign countries, the application of machine vision is quite popular, mainly concentrated in industries such as electronics, automobiles, metallurgy, food and beverage, and component assembly and manufacturing. Machine vision systems have been widely applied in various aspects of quality inspection.

With the rapid development of domestic manufacturing industry, the requirements for product testing and quality continue to increase, and the industrial automation demand for image and machine vision technology in various industries will be increasing. Therefore, machine vision will have great potential for development in the future manufacturing industry.
